Hey beauties!
Weight lifting is one my favorite topics to talk about because I don’t see enough women doing it! There are so many benefits that you’ll thank yourself for doing 20+ years down the road.
You don’t want to be the old person walking down the grocery aisle hunched over, do you? There are things you can do to help prevent that so let’s get into it.
Before we get into the 5 reasons why you should lift weights, I want to add that you won’t look like a man by lifting weights. It’s genetically HARD for us to look like a man. We have hormones that are higher than the average man that keeps us from looking bulky.
Ok, let’s get into it.
There’s no such thing as being “toned.” The word “toned” is a buzzword so when you hear this, know that it all comes down to how much muscle you have. Muscles are what give you your shape so if you’re wanting more of an hour glass shape, then weight lifting is your way to go.
Cardio isn’t going to give you that toned look because it’s not working your muscles like weight lifting does. Cardio can help you drop body fat, but you’re not able to change the shape of your body by doing cardio.
So if you want that more curvy look, weight lifting will be your go-to!
When you’re weight lifting, you’re also strengthening your bones. This is good because the older we get, the more likely our bones are to break down. Every time you lift weights, your muscle contracts and pulls on your bone and stimulates the cells in your bones. This is because your muscle is attached to your bone.
Another important thing to note is that at around the age of 30 we lose muscle mass which can directly impact our bones. To combat this, weight lifting is your saving grace.
The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns. Men burn more calories because they typically have more muscle than women. It’s also been proven and tested to burn more calories outside your weight lifting session. It has shown to burn calories for up to 3 days. Pretty cool, right??
Have you ever picked up something heavy (like dog food, a kitchen table when you were moving, etc) and threw your back out? You could have prevented that if you were strong enough to pick it up. You can decrease your risk of injury by being strong. Plus, do you always want to go ask someone for help when you could have saved time by doing it yourself? I know I do!
Remember when I said you can burn calories for up to 3 days after weight lifting? And do you remember when I said the more muscle you have the more calories you burn? This helps keep the fat off when you lose it. When you pair it with good nutrition and light cardio, your likelihood of keeping the fat off has increased!
After reading this I hope you see the huge benefit of weight lifting! There are many more benefits, but these are the 5 biggest benefits from lifting.
