Hey beauties!
I have the single best tip to raise your metabolism so you can burn more calories, and it doesn’t require you to eat less! In fact, you’ll be eating more. I know what you’re thinking, “How in the world can I eat more and burn more calories?” This is where majority of my clients start out because they’re used to having to diet, eating 1200 calories (which is exceptionally low by the way), etc to reach their body goals.
Before I give you my #1 tip, I want to start off by saying you’re allowed to want to change your body. I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz stating that you don’t love your body if you’re wanting to change it. You can still fully accept where your body is now and want to change it. It all comes down to doing it for the right reasons and truly loving your body at every stage. Heck, I love where my body the way it is now (even though I’ve gained almost 20 pounds), but I challenge it to look more toned. There’s nothing wrong with that!
Alright, now that we got that out of the way, my biggest tip…..REVERSE DIETING.
It’s exactly how it sounds. You’re reversing a diet or simply reversing a caloric deficit. This is where you gradually increase your calories so your body gets used to more food. During this process you’re raising your metabolism. When your metabolism is higher, you naturally burn more calories. If you want an extra challenge, add strength training. More muscle = burn more calories. No, you won’t look like a man. This is the way to get the “toned” look you want.
This is exceptionally helpful if you keep cutting calories to lose fat, but you aren’t seeing progress. This is because your body can’t comprehend eating less and less and less. It’s very smart so it will hold onto whatever fat it has to use it for energy. This is because your body doesn’t know when it’s going to get food again.
It’s a strategic way to potentially lose weight / get “toned” (gain muscle). Weight loss isn’t something every single person witnesses, but if it’s done RIGHT you could potentially lose weight. It all depends on your body. Not one body is the same.
Reverse dieting is good for many reasons:
I found this very helpful picture to visually show you what it’s like to be in a reverse dieting phase.
The biggest question I get is how do you not gain weight while eating more calories. Well simple answer is….you aren’t going to lose weight if you’re doing the exact same thing you’re doing right now, and it’s because your body isn’t getting enough food.
There’s a possibility you gain a small amount of fat, but there’s also a chance you can lose fat while reverse dieting. It all depends on the individual.
You’ll drop your calories after you have reversed a diet or calorie deficit. This is when more fat will shed because your body is so used to eating a higher caloric intake (raising your metabolism), and you’re eating less than what you normally eat. Make sense?
Here’s my client who was eating ~1200 calories a day and ended with eating 2000 calories:
