I want to talk about something that’s hardly ever talked about in today’s society. I see so many fabulous women with incredible gifts to share with the world struggling and hiding behind their tent-dresses and baggie clothes because they hate their body.
Now, you don’t do this intentionally. It’s not like…“I feel fat today so I’m not going to show my face” kinda thing…
But when you dig a bit deeper and uncover WHY you aren’t showing up for yourself or your people, you’ll likely realize that the issue is a bit more deeply rooted in lack of self-confidence and love for your body.
Lucky for you, I’ve pulled together 5 common misconceptions that women say or think about their body to help you identify the stories you are telling yourself.
5 Weight Loss Misconceptions Blocking You From Reaching Your Body Goals
1. “I can change my body by going on another diet”.
Diets don’t work. In fact, 80-95% of dieters gain the weight back after the diet. That’s a pretty low success rate if you ask me.
2. “I can exercise the fat away.”
Yes, BUT if your diet isn’t in check… If you’re eating all the sugar and all the junk all the time when you feel stressed or emotional, you will be doing damage to your body, and you may struggle to lose the weight (every body is different). Also, if you’re not exercising in a way that works for your body, this won’t work.
You can’t out-exercise away a poor diet.
3. “Cardio is more important for fat loss than weight lifting.”
You’ll burn calories completing a cardio workout, but to lose weight, your primary concern should be muscle gain. Muscles make it easier for your body to prevent fat gain because it burns more calories the more muscle you have. The less muscle you have, the lower your metabolism. Building muscle doesn’t mean you’re going to look manly. We aren’t genetically capable of that! You’ll just look more defined 🙂
4. “I can’t eat that donut.”
Actually, you can! It’s important to have a well-balanced diet, and that includes your favorite donuts (or whatever your fav food is).
5. “I can’t change, my body is just this way” (this is an example of sabotage, not acceptance and surrender).
If you were born in a completely different family with the same body, this wouldn’t be true. That’s because our beliefs and patterns come from the environment we grew up in. Hence why you believe that you can’t lose the weight or heal your body because of your genetics. I call bullshit. It is all about what you believe to be true.
If you have caught yourself saying any of these, there is deeper work to do, and I can help you with that inside my 1:1 coaching program.
If you are still struggling to lose fat, you’ve got to go deeper.
Your body isn’t the enemy.
You can lose the weight around your tummy, but first you have to LOVE your body and do the healing work to have a different outcome.
When you skip the healing work, your old habits remain. Which means your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that got you to where you’re at now will still be there.
You need to do the healing work FIRST. Then the diet and the exercise comes easily. And the weight loss is even easier. Think solid-coconut-oil-melting-in-the palm-of-your-hand, easy.
